Google Offers Eligible College Students a Free Year of Gemini AI

Google is offering eligible college students in many markets one year of a Google AI plan at no cost, alongside new and upgraded study tools in Gemini.

The student experience includes a dedicated hub, study notebooks, flashcards, practice quizzes, interactive visualisations and deeper research tools. The exact plan varies by market, with Google AI Pro offered in the United States and Google AI Plus available to eligible students in many other countries.

Why it matters for schools

Although the offer is aimed at higher education, it reinforces a challenge already facing secondary schools: students are gaining increasingly capable consumer AI tools outside institutionally selected platforms.
