Microsoft agrees new AI safety and privacy standard for schools
Microsoft has agreed a new National AI Safety & Privacy Standard for schools with the American Federation of Teachers and United Federation of Teachers, setting out protections around the use of artificial intelligence and school data.
Under the agreement, student and educator data will not be used to train AI models, sold or repurposed, while schools will retain control over how their data is used, retained and deleted. The framework also requires human oversight of AI systems and greater transparency for educators and families.
Microsoft says the protections can be incorporated into customer agreements with school districts across the United States.
