Objective:

• Regular fume cupboard testing is vital for health and safety.
• Ensure that at the time of testing, the fume cupboards are safe for their employees and students to use.
• The employer can designate a laboratory technician or teacher, who is considered competent, to carry out the tests.

What you will learn:

• Visual inspection of the fume cupboard, the ducting, and stack.
• Face velocity measurements.
• Noise measurement.
• For re-circulatory fume cupboards: filter saturation tests.

The results of your examination should be reported to the employer, to monitor progress and to address any further specialized work that needs to be carried out.
