Overview


This 3-hour workshop is designed for educators who are just beginning to explore the role of AI in education. With a focus on practical skills and real-world applications, participants  will gain an understanding of how AI is shaping the future of education, develop new skills  for interacting with AI tools, and leave equipped to confidently integrate AI into their

teaching practice.


Outcomes


By the end of the workshop, participants will:

• Understand that AI is a transformative technology requiring new approaches and skills.

• Appreciate the implications of AI for education and their role in preparing students for  the future.

• Learn the foundations of effective AI interaction, focusing on optimizing prompts for  better outputs.

• Develop iterative prompting skills to refine and enhance AI-generated responses.

• Gain practical experience in using AI tools to create teaching and learning resources.

• Build confidence to approach and experiment with AI tools in their professional context.

Optional Outcomes:

• Learn strategies for critically evaluating AI outputs for accuracy and reliability.

• Explore ethical considerations in using AI within education, fostering responsible use (including academic integrity)


Workshop Structure


Understanding the Near-Future of AI in Education (30 minutes)

• Overview of AI's trajectory in education.

• Real-world examples of AI already transforming teaching and learning.

• Addressing concerns: AI as a partner, not a replacement.


Exploring Key Purposes for Using AI in Education (15 minutes)

• Identifying practical applications: lesson planning, assessment support, and  personalisation.

• Discussion on how AI can reduce workload while enhancing outcomes.


Conversational AI: Levelling Up Your Prompting Game (60 minutes)

• Hands-on practice with ChatGPT and Claude.

• Understanding how prompts shape AI responses.

• Developing iterative skills to edit and adapt prompts for precise outputs.


Using AI to Find Answers, Research, and Resources (30 minutes)

• Introduction to tools like Perplexity for research and resource curation.

• Tips for evaluating the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated information.


AI Image Generators for Education (30 minutes)

• Demonstrating tools like Ideogram, ChatGPT, and MidJourney for visual resource  creation.

• Exploring creative possibilities: posters, infographics, and teaching aids.


Q&A and Plenary Session (15 minutes)

• Open forum to address participant questions and challenges.

• Summary of key takeaways and next steps for continued learning.


This workshop offers a practical, hands-on introduction to AI for educators, designed to  help participants feel confident and equipped in navigating this rapidly evolving field.
