- AISC 2024 Announce First Keynote Speaker
The Asia-Pacific International Schools Conference 2024 welcomes educators to explore four significant and interconnected themes: Adaptive Learning, Critical Pedagogy, Futures Forward Education and Wellbeing in Education. This will be an engaging and transformative conference experience! These themes capture the dynamic nature of our evolving educational landscape, inviting you to embark on an enlightening path of discovery and transformation. Engage in stimulating discussions, participate in thought-provoking workshops, and attend insightful presentations that delve into the heart of each theme. AISC 2024 also offers a unique platform for networking. Build connections with fellow educators, passionate change-makers, and visionary leaders dedicated to advancing education. Together, we will gather actionable insights and strategies, contributing collectively to the global conversation on educational excellence. Keynote presentation: Imagining alternative educational futures in the present We are pleased to welcome Dr. Elke Van dermijnsbrugge, Lecturer and Researcher in International Teacher Education at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands, to be our Keynote Speaker this year. Dr. Van dermijnsbrugge focuses on alternative research methods in education and is interested in the application of utopian and speculative thinking, the punk ethos philosophy to reimagine educational policy, research and practices that support collaborative, participatory, plural, just and imaginative futures. We are confronted with global crises: political instability, environmental destruction, and increasing global inequalities. The dominant, evidence-based discourses in education do not seem to be offering adequate responses to these crises. Dr. Van dermijnsbrugge consider crisis as an opportunity to interrupt the ‘normal’ order; to consider the conditions that have given rise to it, what it says about who we are as humans and how we might be able to imagine and do things differently to work towards collaborative, participatory, plural, just and imaginative futures. In this keynote, we will tackle the questions ‘How can educators respond to a world in crisis and create alternative futures in the present?’ and ‘How can the imagination be put to work in educational spaces?’ We will shift the focus from problem-solving and crisis responses to possibility and mutual aid. We will explore educational practices that involve imaginative, utopian and speculative thinking and acting. Education and schools in particular will be repositioned and reimagined as spaces where alternative futures emerge, starting here and now. - GESS Dubai 2024 to Spotlight EdTech as Schools Ramp Up Investment in AR and AI
Other resources schools are focusing on in the coming years include infrastructure and maintenance, digital and remote learning tools, and textbooks and educational schemes. International schools are also actively integrating wellbeing strategies into their curricula and school culture. Dubai, UAE– The Global Educational Supplies and Solutions (GESS) Dubai, organised by Informa Connect, returns for its highly anticipated 17th edition from November 12 to 14, 2024, at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Sheikh Saeed Halls 1 to 3. This year, the focus is on the rapid adoption of EdTech, particularly augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, as international schools in the GCC region increasingly allocate their budgets toward these innovative solutions. With the GCC EdTech market projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.12% from 2024 to 2030, governments across the region are emphasising education and technology as central pillars in their economic transformation and national development strategies. Key Factors Driving Competitiveness and Growth According to data compiled by ISC Research exclusively for GESS Dubai, the growing demand for educational supplies is driven by the number of international schools in the GCC, which has risen to 1,653 (a 6.5% increase from 2023), serving a total student population of 1,712,894 (8.4% increase from 2023). The international schools market continues to develop globally due to increasing globalisation, expatriate mobility, and the growing demand for high-quality, culturally diverse, and internationally recognised education. Countries pursuing economic stability and prosperity through foreign direct investment (FDI), as well as those committing to substantial public spending, tend to attract a significant influx of international talent and businesses. This not only intensifies the immediate demand for international schooling among expatriate workers but also cultivates a more successful local population inclined to pursue international education over time. In the GCC, strategic development projects such as Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, Qatar’s National Vision 2030, and Oman’s Vision 2040 have been instrumental in advancing services, infrastructure, and economic diversification. These initiatives continue to draw expatriates, elevate local affluence, and deepen interest in the global landscape, particularly global education. See the event listing on EdEvents.
